DRACULA
What makes Dracula such a captivating monster? Why do we gravitate toward his power and control over his victims? Carmel High School’s production of Dracula sought to answer these questions and challenge some of them. This performance swapped the gender of Renfield and Dr. Van Helsing. This choice highlighted the power imbalance within the play and highlights how this theme is ever-present in our current society as well.
The show was technically very dense, complete with pyrotechnics, blood fountains, projections, and illusions. Our build schedule was spread out over the course of several months, giving up plenty of time to play with new materials, dial in the special effects, and make sure all of our paint treatments were just right. It was an absolute pleasure to work on.
